When you were born you automatically become responsible for caring for parents when they are old?
even if they are abusive and neglect its direction and you may no longer contact them at all?
I imagine that you ask this question because you do not want to take care of their parents. Heh? I understand completely. My parents are divorced, but if I had to take care of one over the other, would be my father. But I do not want to take care of any of them. I had problems like I have resentment towards my parents and I feel it is my legal and moral responsibility to care for them. I love them, but I also think I deserve live my life as I want. They did. So some people think it is OK to take their parents as they age and you spend the final years of the best that you have stopped taking care of them. Then it's time for you. I see nothing wrong with or assisted living and nursing homes. There is Medicare and Medicaid to help pay for it and I fully plan use it for my parents and me as well when my time comes. I do not dream of putting my children in that position. I want my children to live life to the fullest. No is caring for an elderly woman. If you do not want to take care of their parents'. Not a healthy situation for either of you.
