The main difference between us and others to the extent that religion is the Bible refers to not only believe in the Bible, we believe that the revelations of God and the works that formed the Bible still continue today. So instead of reading the bible for "things that" reads like a constant work of God, the prophets who live today as always God calls and worked through in the past. Like Peter received a prophecy in the New Testament that made their beliefs slightly different (for example, Peter received the revelation that the Kosher Law is not mandatory for Christians, Joseph Smith received one on alcohol and snuff).
