Then there's Frankenstein Deucalion, 200-year-old monster, who is aware of his soul, the connection with God and destiny, to destroy his "Maker-mad scientist whose Replicants will used to replace humanity. Dean Koontz's villains are terrifying and hard to turn away from, and his heroic form seem to be chained to their folly, they suffer setbacks, but the fight to the front, holding the reader tuned to what our best.
Koontz understands that evil is not only a lust for chaos and murder, but murder of civilization, the destruction of the idea, starting with the idea of freedom. Koontz weapons Western ideals, when, for example, the wife of Dr. Frankenstein Replicant consoles from Emily Dickinson after savage beatings by her husband, and Deucalion and detectives who help him prepare for the battle that will probably cost their lives. By such a modest and spectacular characters, Koontz tells us that the Western art, history and religion is not only worth fighting for is worth our research and our love.
