Are with Michael Connelly, John Lescroart, and James Lee Burke always on my list to check their latest trawl, when I walk through a bookstore.
You're a writer, always a pleasure to reward you for your patience and for their youngest. The reward is doubled, while waiting, you begin again to read her novels again - from the very beginning of their series.
While I love British mysteries and thrillers as well as I, the U.S., there is no doubt that these two authors are American - so good, they remind a "feel" for the specific nature of American society and cultural idiom - and a typical American Context and locales.
As a fan of detective fiction books above, I regularly read John Lescroart novels over the years and am pleased to report that that from first to last he has received a very high standard of writing - the preservation characters that are credible and not infallible, but we humans can himself as a fellow human - if they do not identify with their specific tasks and challenges.
I find the creation of Dismas Hardy protagonist desirable as the author again and again (from book to book) keeps it real and growing - just like we do - through the ups and downs of daily life.
John Lescroart's Creation of Dismas Hardy lines of equal parts of Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch, Lawrence Block's Matthew Scudder and Burke's Dave Robicheaux.
I have read, not his Hunt Club, with new players, "Wyatt Hunt" not yet - but I can not imagine it consistently with the same respect good plotting and intriguing characterizations.
James Lee Burke is a writer of exquisite prose quiet - almost an elegiac style of writing - The atmosphere on the same page breathes and is so evocative of those body (Louisiana bayous), you can feel it, even if you have not been there.
Right up there with Harry Bosch and Matt Scudder, Burke's Dave Robicheaux is a protagonist readable book for everyone. And almost on an equal par, is his other "heroes" Billy Bob Holland (Cimarron Rose, In the Moon of Red Ponies).
As befits the South, his books are at once thoughtful, finely balanced and went, as he stories recognize the deficiencies in people and affects the way in which they still can not get through - even in the face of human violence - people, places, or ideals.
As with Lescroart and in many other major crime stories, Burke maintained, you hook into the lives of his characters so that you are so interested in following their lives and who unfolding stories.
His books are the best fiction books for the discerning book worm who loves this genre.
Although it is not the subject this small article, I want to mention, Lawrence Block's Matthew Scudder. With the Scudder novels block at his mordant best and the books are also thoughtful, richly textured and populated by memorable characters, who are among the most enduring creations block: as wife, Elaine, Scudder, TJ streetwise buddy, old pal, Mick Ballou, the murderous and hard-drinking Irish gangsters with a deep philosophical streak.
Like Lescroart and Burke, Block joins the happy by Michael Connelly and Robert Crais by giving us consistently good reads from book to book.
No pulp fiction hack; plotting set up so formulaic writing and triple predictable resolution are not part of the repertoire for these authors. Enjoy it!
Has anyone read these books?
"Dead End" - Judith Skillings "Spook" - Bill Pronzini "Chasing Darkness" - Robert Crais "Glass Houses" - Jane Haddam And if you are a good reading level for a teenager? Thanks in advance.
It appears they are in scary stories. Try reading Nightmare by Joan Lowery Nixon. This is a girl and is really very good. Help please! Http: / / answers.yahoo.com / question / index? Qid = 20090412103619AAdOmHg
